ABC on a string

Sooooo lovely, these handmade letters by Zim and Zou. Wish I had this great idea! I remember making a 'picture' like that when I was young. Such a great idea. Have a look at their website and discover some more fantastic concepts.

Texture obsession

I made this sewing machine practice when I was little. As you can see I still make the same kinds of textures, I do them with pen and paper now. I only noticed the connection a few weeks ago.

Robert Horvitz

Robert Horvitz is an artists for whom the creative process itself plays a primary role, with everything down to the smallest detail being subordinate: a fixed means of expression, rapid, almost unconsciously executed pen strokes and constant use of the same paper type and format. Source Jewish Museum Prague
Definately how I would prefer to be working if I were an artist. Beautiful.

Needlepoint and more

It's a bright sunny and warm day here in the middle of the Netherlands so I thought I'd start off with a few handmade items I did when I was about 6-10 years old. I did them at school and I'm really glad my mom kept these for me.

Hester Zagt

I came across the beautiful jewelry by Hester Zagt in Berlin. I had seen it it a magazine but never in real life. I was in love immediately! Hester is inspired by Dutch culture and especially by traditional costume in all its appearances, such as jewelry, lace, fabrics etc. She designed rings of porcelain inspired by Staphorst 'dotwork' and earrings based on the 'Zeeuwse knop' a jewel from the Dutch province Zeeland.
The 'Zeeuwse Knop' (last picture), are antique jewels from my birthplace Zeeland. People used to wear them as beltbuckels or as hairpins and it was part of the traditional clothing. These jewels were inspired on the flower the Astrantia major.

Swirly creatures

I've been scribbling and doodling a lot lately, these swirles are some of the doodles I've made. I'm collecting and colouring the doodles in Photoshop. I'm planning make an A3 print of it. I'll post that when it's good and ready.

Counting

One of my doodles. One of the project I can still show a bit of patience and persistency. I need to do that from time to time, to take my mind of things.

Chinese paper cuts

My friend Jenny once showed me paper cuts she had used for a birth announcement design. I was in love with these delicate pieces of art immediately. These tiny pieces of paper are hand cut and are so extremely fragile, you cannot believe it. So beautiful! It's hard to imagine someone doing this actually by hand. I bought two of these sets a few years ago somewhere in Amsterdam but, for the life of me, I cannot remember where?!

My own boat

When I was growing up wanted everything my older brothers had. So when my grandfather made them a wooden boat to play with I wanted one too. A few weeks later he gave me this boat which he made especially for me. I was a little disappointed because this wasn't what I expected, it was far too beautiful! I was afraid to play with it and break it...
I'm not sure if I ever properly thanked him for making this piece of craftmanship for me.
