I found this artist via Google. Quite an amazing find!

Justin Quinn

The artist statement
The distance between reading and seeing has been an ongoing interest for me. Since 1998 I have been exploring this space through the use of letterforms, and have used the letter E as my primary starting point for the last two years. Since E is often found at the top of vision charts, I questioned what I saw as a familiar hierarchy. Was this letter more important than other letters? E is, after all, the most commonly used letter in the English language, it denotes a natural number (2.71828), and has a visual presence that interests me greatly. Polar & Nexus

Munken Polar is a paper brand created by Arctic Paper. FF Nexus is a typeface created by Martin Majoor. This book shows how versatile the paper as well as the typeface is.

Martin Majoor was my typedesign teacher in Art College. My love for type and typedesign started there. Unfortunately I never persisted in it after I graduated from college. Looking back I wish I did, though...
Back then I designed my own typeface, I hope to be able to show it here one day, I'm still trying to locate my old portfolio!

Printers cabinet

My neighbour Claire was doing some serious Spring cleaning and was throwing out these beauties. I was just in time to save them from ending up in the dump. Thanks again, Claire!

The word as image

Fantastic book from 1970 by Berjouhi Bowler (a New Yorker by Armenian descent):
'Shaped texts have appeared all over the world, and from the most ancient times to the present day.'

Of course, nowadays the computer helps us generate text easily, but look at these pictures and keep in mind that they were all drawn, written or designed before 1970!
