Nick van Woert

I stumbled upon Nick van Woert's work on the Cargo Collective website. Only when I took a closer look I realised what I was looking at: Plaster busts and plastic.

Jaakko Mattila

I came across Jaakko Mattila's paper works through the Jealous Curator. And I must say, this work is a wonderful find. Especially on a gloomy day like this.

Mattila is a Finnish painter who uses simple colour dots and lines in a geometric pattern. Visit his website for more work: installations, canvas, prints and projects

Shawn Smith

The artist statement:
'My work investigates the slippery intersection between the digital world and reality. Specifically, I am interested in how we experience nature through technology. When we see images of nature on TV or on a computer screen, we feel that we are seeing nature but we are really only seeing patterns of pixilated light. [...] '

Ripolin Domino

At a flea market I bought this small box with little cards in it. This is 'Ripolin' said the woman who sold it to me. I nodded as if I knew what she meant, but truth was I didn't know what she was talking about. I just liked the colours and the other cards in the box.
So, once home, I looked up Ripolin and discovered it was a French paint brand. Turns out that the Dutch  Ripolin factory was situated in the town I live in.
Around 1915 they published this paper Domino game. Unfortunately, I don't have the original box.

Mixing media

Just trying out some ideas; old fashioned handwork (watercolors and ink) mixed in Photoshop

Drawing stories

My daughter (8) loves to draw. She's not particularly good at it but it helps her relax. Before school starts she and her classmates can use this sketch book, 'rommelschriftje' to draw or doodle in. It's always great to hear the stories she creates in these drawings. Animals and girls are her favourite.

New doodles in colour

I made most of these doodles during team meetings at work. I scanned them, collected them in one document and coloured them in Photoshop.

Lewis' army

Most kids love collecting. Lucky for me, I have a son who loves collecting these Gogos. These small creatures are very reasonably priced so the perfect small gift. Lucky for him, I get obsessive over gorgeous items like these figurines. That's why he has quite a collection. I had to stop myself from buying more...

Tatsuro Kiuchi

Tatsuro Kiuchi is a Japanese illustrator. I came across his work in a book I bought the other day (Illustration Now). His work looks different to me; the colourful technique, but also because of his feeling for beautiful compostitions.
