Counting

One of my doodles. One of the project I can still show a bit of patience and persistency. I need to do that from time to time, to take my mind of things.

Ariadne's thread

Old magazines are always great, but these are fantastic: old DIY projects, patterns for knitting, for embroidery etc. The advertising is nice as well, meant for the 'modern' housewife. Ariadne is a magazine title evolved into Ariadne at home. It is now a magazine about interior decoration.

Different header

Tell me if you prefer the one I used to have (see below).

Crane is cotton

A few years ago I received this small book from a paper supplier. The paper brand is called Crane. The manufacturer uses only 100% pure cotton fibre to make its business papers. The paper feels like a lot of paper brands feel but the presentation is quite nice. The illustrations were made by Stephen Alcorn. He used the relief-block print technique for these illustrations. Gorgeous, right?

Kapitza!

One in a while I get a spam e-mail by Kapitza, trying to sell me their stuff. Usually I delete those e-mails but the Kapitza e-mail is always welcome.
Kapitza is an design company run by Nicole & Petra Kapitza who share a passion for everyday life, minimalism, patterns & colour. They have been developing an extensive series of unique picture fonts and illustrations that lie somewhere between image resource and art project. Take a look at the book, don't you just love it?!
Of course, creating your own patterns and textures is always more fun, but if you run out of time, this is a very good option.

A.J Bocchino; recycling newspapers

Artist A.J Bocchino used New York Times headlines for his paintings. For ten years he collected headlines and used them in paintings with themes like '9/11' or 'Spanish American War/Iraq War' or 'oil'. He excised every headline in the New York Times which contained for instance the word 'oil' for ten years. The headlines are organized by subject and color-coded.
The digital version of the Dutch newspaper NRC Next posted this item on twitter. I love artists who show endurance in their work.

Buttons everywhere

Corné took this picture and gave it to me to post. He was intrigued by the look of the amount of buttons that form a nice pattern/texture. Of course, the crafty girls amoung us are used to seeing this...

Light as a feather

I've been patient, I've been understanding, I did not complain, I was optimistic, but now I've had ENOUGH! I want springtime!

Again, doodles...

This time little creatures, flowers etc. Nothing special, really, but brought together they form a nice spectacle. I'm planning to change my blog's background and fill it with the best texture I've made so far. I'll first have to find out to go about it. Suggestions, anyone?

Marian Bantjes

I love Marian Bantjes' work. She's a Canadian designer, she calls herself a lapsed Graphic Designer. I admire her accuracy, her persistency, het typographic feel. I wish I had just a tiny bit of her talent.
