Bookmarks

I bought these lovely bookmarks the other day. I was very happy with this simple but great find!

Vintage sewing kit

In my earlier blogpost I referred to this box, which I bought the other day. A vintage wooden box which served as sewing kit. A few things where in it, the best item was of course the pair of scissors in the original box.

Bag, purse, clutch

I don't have the money for it but - like any woman - I would love a room full of bags. Vintage ones, new ones, any kind will do.

Great grandmother

My parents have a box in which they keep some memories, such as this old passport. My mother's grandmother whom she never got to know.

Somewhat red and somewhat brown

The first year in Art-college is a year of playing around with materials, colours, textures, ideas and concepts. Lots of drawing, painting, but also 3-dimensional work. Most of the time it was a lot of hard work!
This small book is a colourstudy. I think I might scan is sometime to use the textures as a background for illustrations or something else. I'll definately find a destination for them!

Sleeping in the hay

Last week we stayed in Germont, France. We rented the holiday house of a former colleague of mine. She and her husband bought a hay loft and turned it into a great house to live in after years of hard work. The website show pictures of the amount of work they put into this small palace. Do take a look, it's absolutely amazing!
The house is decorated with a lot of 'brocante', so that was right up my alley! You can imagine we had a great time in this beautiful and inspiring place.

Holiday journals

Trip to Prague-Budapest-Krakow-Berlin

Hitch-hiking through France

City trip to Strasbourg and Barcelona

Holiday to the south-west of Britain

Holiday to Corsica

When we were students we used to travel through Europe. We hitch-hiked a lot and hardly ever stayed longer than 2 nights in one place. During those trips I always kept a journal in which I described our days. I used the journals to collect tickets, receipts, cards, plans etc. Looking back the books are nice time capsules.

Holiday in Germont

Next week we'll be staying in this beautiful house in the Champagne Ardennes in the North of France. That means that I'll be blogging a bit less than usual. However, the laptop is coming along so I'll keep you all posted from time to time. Hopefully the weather will be dry or even a bit sunny, so I can share a few nice pictures!

Happy Queensday!

Today the Dutch celebrate Queensday, so orange is the colour of the day. At Queensday we celebrate Queen Beatrix' birthday. Her actual birthday is in January, but who cares! It's a day off for everyone, exept for the Queen, she has to visit the festivities in one or two villages. In lots of towns people sell their stuff on the street, so fleamarkets all over!

Queen Beatrix is a House of Orange descendant which means that the whole country is coloured orange.
These royalty-loving pins are from the early sixties, I photographed them over at my parents house.

Travelling in and around London

London Transport has always been my fascination. Back in Art College it wrote my thesis about the London Underground; the map and the way signing. I consider the London Underground Map one of the best graphic design pieces ever and I love the London Transport corporate identity (the logo, the colours and the type face). I bought these maps and leaflets in St. Ives when we were there on holiday, a long time ago. I remember I was over the moon when I found these. They're all from the early seventies. Vintage, I'd say.
