Winnie the poeh in 3d

This lovely Winnie the Poeh book is the ultimate pop-up experience. If you tie back to cover the book can be displayed. So gorgeous! It was published by the department store Hema in the eighties or early nineties.

Orange of the day

My colleague Willem made this fruitdoodle for me today!

A.J Bocchino; recycling newspapers

Artist A.J Bocchino used New York Times headlines for his paintings. For ten years he collected headlines and used them in paintings with themes like '9/11' or 'Spanish American War/Iraq War' or 'oil'. He excised every headline in the New York Times which contained for instance the word 'oil' for ten years. The headlines are organized by subject and color-coded.
The digital version of the Dutch newspaper NRC Next posted this item on twitter. I love artists who show endurance in their work.

Domino for kids

Dutch visitors may recognize this game of domino. I bought this one a few years ago at a Queen's day market. Yesterday I was in the local thrift shop and I saw two of these boxes. So it's not a rare item, but nonetheless very cute. I love the simplicity of illustrations.

Faithful employer

This certificate for being a faithful employee was given to my boyfriend's grandfather. He worked 12.5 years at a stretch for the same employer. Nowadays, that is almost considered a weakness and a sign of being a total bore.

Advertising for Didi

Yesterday I went past a bus stop and saw this amazing advertisement for the spring collection for Didi. The clothing is not really my style but I thoroughly love this piece of paper art. I don't know who is responsible for the artwork, but he or she had my vote already. Excuse me for the bad pictures, to make up for them I added a screendump from the website.

Sinbad and friends

A few vintage dolls, toys and figurines. Only one of them used to be mine when I was a kid, the Brio penguin. The other ones we picked up in various markets, shops and we even found one lying on the street.

The Observer's book of dogs

This small book first published in 1945 shows 300 dog breeds. Really interesting to see is how different breeds have changed over the years. Our dog, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever wasn't very popular in those days, the breed isn't listed in the book.
This book is the fourth edition, July '51.

Mister Grumpy

I met him in the grocery store this afternoon. He didn't look at all happy.

From Russia with love

I'm always a bit hestitant to buy stuff online but sometimes I'm surprised by what I receive in the mail. This book, Ladoesjki, was a real surprise to me when I opened the package. It was even more amazing than I thought it would be. Beautiful illustrations and the typography is quite extraordinary. Ladoesjk by J. Wasnetsov is a book with russian rhymes, stories and fairytales.

Not for the faint hearted

This vintage cardboard box is one of my pridest possessions. I love the box, the print, the colours and frankly, I also love what's inside... a fur sleeve.
Mind you, I'm very much against fur, but I still love this piece of old fashioned luxury.
