Reading for the first time

Back in the old (school) days there was a Dutch reading method called AAP-NOOT-MIES (translation: ape-nut-mies (cat's name). This method is no longer thought in the primary schools anymore but the teaching aids are still very much sought after! These small books are called 'eerste leesboekje' (first reading books). The illustrations are beautiful!

More wood type

I found some more wooden printer blocks, I bought these online. I love them and I'm always on the look out for more. Hopefully, one day, I'll have enough of these to fill a big frame!

Mother's lap

This children's book with the sweetest drawings unfortunately hasn't got a cover anymore. I remember it from my childhood, but I cannot remember the cover. The title of the book is 'Aan moeders schoot' (Mother's lap). It was published by one of Hollands most famous women's magazines called 'Margriet'. The book used to belong to my uncle.

Random stuff from Berlin

Just a few items I brought back from my city trip to Berlin.

Tuff tuff

We found this beautiful wooden train at a thiftshop for about 3 euro's, great find, right?!

Hooray for me!

This beautiful children's book celebrates the individual child and family relations. Written by Remy Charlip and Lilian Moore. The paintings, blurry watercolours, are by American children's writer and illustrator Vera Williams. The book is from 1975, I bought it at a small yard sale in a small town in Upstate New York.

Alain Grée

Just a few quick scans from a book by Alain Grée. Ever so lovely!

Train associations

This was an illustration assignment in Art College. We had to pick a subject (mine was the train) and find words linked to this subject. We had to associate and come up with pictures that had nothing to do with the initial subject.
The word are:
B for Boemeltrein (old slow train)
L for Locomotief (locomotive)
M for Modeltrein (model train)
N for Noodrem (emergency brake)
O for overstappen (changing trains)
R for Rondreis (roundtrip)

Gemma de Roos

Back in Art College (St. Joost academie in Breda) Gemma de Roos graduated two years ahead of me. Although we studied graphic design it was quite obvoius that she more into illustration. This book was her final exam. Back then I wasn't really impressed but I realise now how great it was! Click on the photo's to see the illustrations more clearly.

Sketching my monogram

These are sketches I did in Art college for my own monogram. All of these are done by hand, I wish I still had the patience to sketch like that!
