I sold this book a few months before I started this blog. Yesterday, I discovered these pictures on my harddisk. I'm really glad I did and I'm really sorry I sold the book. I realise more and more how extraordinary it is. This cookbook is from 1927 or so, it is written by F.S.C. Oldeman but is based on 'Betje, de goedkoope keukenmeid' (translated: Betje, the cheap kitchenmaid'). The first edition of that cookbook appeared somewhere around 1850, a classic book aimed at households with tight wallets.

I've a small stack of these old magazines Margriet, for mother and child. Margriet and Libelle are two competing magazines which both focus on women from about 30-70. The articles the ad can be hilarious sometimes. It's so great to see that both magazines are with us for such a long time and it's interesting to realize that their main focus is still very much the same.
