One of the best children's books I came across: Peter and the wolf by Serge Prokofief, illustrated by Frans Haacken. This edition is from 1964, it was first published in 1958.
Growing up I didn't get familiar with the story nor with the music, unfortunately. But this book makes up for this blank spot in my education. The illustrations by Frans Haacken are amazing and the fact that they're black with just a touch of colour is a very interesting and bold choice for a children's book!
I'd like to know what you think of it!
I love this story and the music, and this edition of the book is beautiful!

BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis is my favorite version of peter and the wolf in book form (I collect them). It's too bad most books aren't made with this much effort anymore.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI am a Music Teacher in Franklin, MA, USA, and I absolutely love this version of Peter & The Wolf. I make sure I order this from the library so I can use it for my music classes! I really wish I could order a copy of it, but I cannot seem to locate an American version of it ANYwhere, only at one particular library in Massachusetts... anyone have a copy they are willing to part with?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThank you so much for taking the time to post these images. I had the same book, 50 years ago! It took me right back... Why did you leave out the shooting hunters or the scene were grandfather takes Peter back into the house? Can you post these, too? ET
