I've been busy working on my portfolio website. It's finally done! Of course I'll refresh it from time to time, as soon as I have documented new work.

Shane McAdams - Ball point pen paintings

Brooklyn-based artist Shane McAdams uses ink extracted from ballpoint pens to create paintings. His images on paper are created by extracting ink from pen barrels, heating the liquid, mixing it with solvents and then applying to paper, allowing gravity, wind and other physical forces to dictate the movement of the ink.

I think you've noticed by now that I love repetition, structures and textures. Preferably done by hand. Good repetitive art is not easy. Boredom is closeby: The artist can get bored making it, and the viewer might not appreciate the work that gets into it. In that case the viewer sees boredom.

Too bad! I love these pieces of art. But I must admit, I love them especially when the repetition is taken into the extreme: big, extensive and overwhelming.

IL Lee - a Korean artist living in New York - is an artist whom I admire. He is best known for his pioneering work with ballpoint pen that he began 30 years ago and continues today. This work is created on paper and on prepared canvas.
