I love encyclopedic drawings! You may have noticed that already, since I post quite a lot of encyclopedic illustrations. I once bought an encyclopedia from 1883 and tore it apart for the drawings... So I'm always pleased to discover an old encyclopedia or illustrated dictionaries such as this one.

I bought this in the local thriftshop. 

Ephemera

The top one looks rather old, but was actually part of the toy medical set my daughter had.
The bottom one is vintage.

John Houck's Aggregates

John Houck’s Aggregates (2011) attempt to create desire that resists a world consumed with highly repetitive things through a combination of physical intervention and reprinting. Using custom-written software, Houck generates every possible combination for a given grid printed as a contact sheet on photographic paper. These contact sheets are creased and re-photographed several times. This process creates layered borders that reveal the construction of each piece and adds its own layer of information, breaking the rigid system of the grid. By physically creasing and re-photographing these repetitive contact sheets, Houck reconciles the digital ground of photography and shows us the failures and ruptures in today’s algorithmic basis of photography. Delfts Blue shells and urchins

A day at the beach. When I was growing up we spent all our summers at the beach, near our summer cottage. Nowadays I hardly ever go to the beach. I miss it though, so the other day I took  my mother, my children and my niece to the beach where we spent our summers. We didn't get very far, 'cause I'm always picking up shells, oysters, or even pieces of wood. 

We just couldn't stop picking up these tiny urchins or sea biscuits. They are so small and delicate! I had never noticed them before untill Saskia over at Knoopjes blogged about them. Thanks Saskia!

My father used to work at Philips Lighting and gave me these vintage items to share. The flashcubes are such a trip down memory lane!

Blue dog man

George Rodrigue is the painter who created Blue Dog, the charasmatic puppy with the ubiquetous eyes. Usually painted blue (thus the name), though he has appeared in variety of colors from grey, to white, to red, to a collage of color. Blue Dog as the story goes is modeled on Rodrigue's beloved Tiffany, the pup of his earlier days.  

Cowboys and indians

A cowboy suit? Yes! A vintage one! This belongs to my brother and he dressed up in it over 40 years ago... It really stood the test of time. My daugther dressed up in it a few weeks ago during the last night of the Avondvierdaagse (a walking event)

Vintage table football

We bought this football game at the flea market on Queen's day in Utrecht. We only paid 5 euro for it! It's rather old, at least 50 years. Unfortunately, it's in very poor condition. The previous owners used a black marker to draw the lines and to number the players. But it still works perfectly and my son loves to play with it!
