Scripta manent

This is a book I rescued from the garbage at work. It is a collection of (fake) letterheads printed on 'Bankpost' This book is actually a sample book for stationary paper. The letterheads were designed by 5 famous Dutch Designers from the sixties and seventies such as Wim Crouwel.

In my work as graphic designer I've designed quite a lot of letterheads however they look a lot different from the ones I show here. Office stationary has changed a lot with the use of Word templates. These days most of the effort goes into designing the inprint. And the only design choices I seem make in this proces are 'do I use Verdana or does Arial look more appropiate?'

The Alphabet 2

View this wonderful stop motion animation made by N9ve. The Alphabet 2 - a horn book video experiment - is a developmental spelling video where each character visually represents the meaning of the word itself. Playing with different techniques and materials into little and big spaces, but always focusing on Helvetica font's proportions.

A while you're at it watch their first Alphabet video, where each character is the initial letter of a font name.

Buying a suit? Make it comes with a repair kit!

My aunt gave me a bag full of (vintage) craft material, mostly for embroidery. I picked out a few things which I liked: Vintage transfers and two paper bags.

In the right light at the right time everything is extraordinary

Half way through the year I took home a calender which a colleague of mine got from a printer.
It is a huge thing but a fantastic design. A bit over the top, but wonderful! Designed by Jonge Meesters, a design agency from Amsterdam.
Each day the calender grows a bit longer similar to the sun hours, until the longest day. From then on the pages get shorter.

Carolien Adriaansche

Carolien Adriaansche makes recycle art, animals out of garbage. She has been collecting for years a whole assortment of junk, which she catalogues in her studio according to color and form.
After a visit to the Natural History Museum in Rotterdam in the early 1990s, her junk collection and love for animals united into one.

In contrast with the Natural History Museum, Carolien does not include the regular habitat of her displayed animals, but instead she creates a new bio-diversity environment for them made out of garbage. Garbage is one of the causes for the elimination of bio-diversity on earth.
