Susan Kare

Without actually realising it, Susan Kare infuenced and changed my professional life. She began her career at Apple Inc. where she was the screen graphics and digital font designer for the original Macintosh computer. Her icons made the computer accessible and even attractive to me. Before I got in touch with WYSIWYG, I was quite 'scared' of computers.
According to the Museum of Modern Art in New York Susan is 'a pioneering and influential computer iconographer. She has designed thousands of icons for the world's leading software companies. Utilizing a minimalist grid of pixels and constructed with mosaic-like precision, her icons communicate their function immediately and memorably, with wit and style.'

So, besides Steve Jobs, I would like to thank Susan for making me love my Mac!

The other day I was in a second hand bookshop in Utrecht and bought a few vintage children's books. When I came home and checked out my purchases I was quite disappointed. I don't quite know what happened but I didn't really like what I had bought. I must have been distracted when I chose the books.
I quite like this one though, with beautiful colourful illustrations by Piet Worm.

PotterySupreme - Lucelle van de Berkt

When I visited the Woonbeurs I stumbled upon the PotterySupreme booth by designer and interior stylist Lucelle van de Berkt. Lucelle is a friend, our daughters are about the same age and used to be friends from school. I wanted to blog about her months ago, but I'm glad I waited because I wouldn't have seen the new pieces in her collection: The Delfts Blue and the Blue Café pieces.
PotterySupreme is her graduating project 'Telling Stories' (2004) at the Artemis Styling Academy. She uses 'out-of-fashion' ceramic pieces from thriftshops and turns them into beautiful modern objects.

Havank mystery novels

Dick Bruna, who gave 'birth' to the famous character of Nijntje (Miffy), designed all of the above covers. His father was a publisher for the family company called Bruna, which published these 'Zwarte beertjes' series of books.

Boardscript or Scrabble

 

 

This is the classic Scrabble game but with a different name and look. The letter blocks are great though, metallic blue green slab font (possibly Rockwell)
