The word as image

Fantastic book from 1970 by Berjouhi Bowler (a New Yorker by Armenian descent):
'Shaped texts have appeared all over the world, and from the most ancient times to the present day.'

Of course, nowadays the computer helps us generate text easily, but look at these pictures and keep in mind that they were all drawn, written or designed before 1970!

  1. What a great post! And very interesting to know that the author is of Armenian descent— because, of course, the Armenians have their own alphabet, different from every other! Maybe this is why/how letters can be seen as picture-elements...?
